Cavolo Nero! Which translates to Black Cabbage – but don’t be put off by the name, it’s a lovely dark green leafy vegetable.
Cavolo Nero was originally grown in Tuscany, Italy. However it is now very successfully grown in the UK and we do have some great locally grown supply of this loose-leafed cabbage. The leaves are a very dark green but it have a sweet aftertaste which many people enjoy over traditional cabbage or kale.
Cavolo Nero can can be served simply boiled, steamed or shredded into a stir-fried. Often people trim out the stem to just be left with the leaf. Equally as it’s origins suggests it is a great vegetable to serve with those pasta dishes!
